Influencer Jeremstar was arrested on Friday after jumping into a bullfighting ring in France to protest animal cruelty.
The action was organized in collaboration with the animal rights group PETA France and took place at the opening bullfighting event of the Feria des Vendanges in Nîmes.
As a bull was being stabbed in the arena, Jeremstar ran into the ring holding a sign that read “F*ck la corrida!”. The protest stopped the event for a moment. Security tackled him to the ground and dragged him out. Police arrested him and took him into custody.
“I hate the corridor. It’s not art, it’s animal torture. This despicable tradition must be abolished. I don’t understand how this shameful show is still possible in 2025,” Jeremstar, whose real name is Jérémy Gisclon, said after the protest. “I am horrified by the pain bulls go through.”
PETA France shared video footage of the moment on social media, showing Jeremstar being violently removed from the ring. The group praised him for his bravery and called again for a national ban on bullfighting. Police arrested Jeremstar, but released him two days later.
Bulls stabbed to death
During a traditional bullfighting event, bulls are forced into the arena and stabbed several times with spears and barbed sticks. When the animal becomes weak and defenceless, a matador kills him with a sword. The final blow often takes more than one attempt.
“Bulls are sensitive animals who feel pain, fear, and stress. During a bullfight, they are thrown into a terrifying atmosphere with the screams of the crowd. They bleed, suffer, and grow weaker. They don’t understand the game, they are fighting for their lives,” Jeremstar said.
“The fight is not fair. The bull has no weapon, unlike the cowardly bullfighter. The animal is killed slowly, so that he suffers for the sake of the show, until a sword pierces his heart or lungs, followed by a fatal stab.
“Fuck bullfighting! These acts of public barbarity must stop,” he added.
Jeremstar is known for speaking out for animals. He has participated in several PETA France protests before, including one at Paris Fashion Week and others targeting fashion brands such as Hermès and Louis Vuitton.
Bullfighting is still legal in some parts of France because of tradition, but public support is falling.
