Over 30 dogs were found with their legs and mouths tied with binding wires in India. The animals were discovered under a bridge in Edumailaram village in the Sangareddy district.
Animal welfare organization Citizens for Animals (CFA) said that 21 dogs were dead. Their bodies were swollen and decomposing. 11 dogs were found alive, but were critically injured.
CFA received an anonymous tip about crying dogs in the area a week ago. Members of CFA discovered the horrifying scene where living dogs were left near decomposing corpses, causing maggots to infest the injured animals. Some dead dogs were also found floating in still water.
It’s not known how long the dogs were left there before they were discovered.
The rescue operation faced challenges due to the area’s inaccessibility, but the CFA got help from volunteers from other animal welfare organizations, such as the Animal Warriors Conservation Society (AWCS) and People for Animals (PFA) Hyderabad.
The injured dogs were rescued and taken to the PFA shelter in Nagole for medical treatment. Two of the 11 dogs have died and the other 9 are still in critical condition, CFA told The Animal Reader.
The dead dogs were sent for post-mortem examinations.
