The animal rescue group Animals Lebanon is facing a significant increase in abandoned animals as Israel attacks the country. Hundreds of cats, dogs, and even wildlife are being left behind as families flee the violence.
“The streets are congested with people fleeing the south and east,” Kate Brooks, who started a petition, said. “Many people who evacuated their homes were unable to bring their pets. Homeless cats and dogs, local wildlife, farm and zoo animals are impacted by the bombings and evacuations.”
On Saturday, traveling through dangerous conditions in Nabatieh, South Lebanon, members of Animals Lebanon rescued six animals. One of the animals was a cat named Simba.
“Simba had been stuck since Monday. The supermarket owner, who evacuated, had kindly left the keys on top of the fridge. Thankfully, Simba was still there and was safely rescued,” the organization said in an Instagram post.
Animals Lebanon urgently seeks foster homes and volunteers to rescue and care for animals.
