A stray dog who was trapped for days on rocks in the second-largest river in Chile was rescued by the navy on Thursday morning.
The navy got a call that a dog was located on top of an ocean rock, “and he was in danger”, navy lieutenant commander Hernan Norman Ahumada said.
The medium-sized black dog was named Sirena, which means ‘mermaid’. She was stuck at the mouth of the Biobío river. “The rescue was a little complicated due to the rocks because of the steepness,” Ahumada said. But members of the Chilean navy and firefighters were able to rescue her.
An animal welfare organization took the rescued dog to a veterinary clinic, and according to local media, the next step will be finding a good home for Sirena.
