A dead humpback whale washed ashore on Las Flores beach in La Libertad, according to El Salvador’s Ministry of Environment. The animal was almost 16 meters long.

The body of the dead animal was discovered on the beach on Friday. It’s not known how the animal died.

Officials said the animal would be buried to prevent a source of contamination.
