A woman in Ohio kept an alligator in her basement for 25 years. The animal was rescued after police got an unusual tip last week.

The homeowner said her son bought the gator at a reptile flea market 25 years ago and had kept it in the basement ever since, police said.

The animal was taken to an animal facility where he was checked out by veterinarians and will be transported to an alligator sanctuary in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a much more suitable habitat for an American alligator.
