Diwali is the biggest Hindu festival in India. People burst a lot of firecrackers to celebrate the festival. The loud explosions leave dogs traumatized. They hide in a corner, their body begins trembling out of fear and they stop having food and water for days.
This year, Diwali was on October 27th. People start shooting fireworks a few days before and the days after too. The Hindu festival of lights symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”.
Dog owners from the south Indian city of Bangalore explain the trauma their dogs go through every year. And animal rescuers talk about the conditions in which they find stray dogs.
